Malton, Ryedale, North YorkshireMalton is a small market town in North Yorkshire and has been considered the historic and commercial centre of Ryedale since Roman times.
The Town of Malton is situated in the North Riding of Yorkshire, on the north side of the river Derwent, and on the south side is the adjoining town of Norton-on-Derwent, in the East Riding.
The site has been settled at least since Roman times and the remains of an important Roman fort ('Orchard Fields') are a local attraction. Other attractions include a museum, a Gilbertine priory, Eden Camp (a military themed museum), and many charming and historic churches and buildings. There is a market in Malton each Saturday, a farmers' market each month, and both the Ryedale Show and Malton Show are held nearby in the summer. Ryedale District Council have their offices in the town, and it has been a place of importance right through the ages. Please See Also: | |||
